BACKGROUND
The Nigerian Minerals Appraisal and Monetisation Programme (NIMAMOP)
had in 1997 identified and discovered several viable solid minerals spread
across the country and thereby forecasting mining as having greater
prospects for Nigeria than Oil and Gas. Meanwhile, positioned as the Second
Growth Factor.
However, the prospects of mining positioned as the Second Growth Factor
and potentially overtaking Oil and Gas as the mainstay of the economy has
been largely hindered by wanton and indiscrimate illegal mining, smuggling
of minerals as well as insecurity in mining sites and communities to the
detriment of economic growth and development.
Against this background, in tandem with the strategic mission of promoting
economic growth programmes and associating with President Bola
Ahmed Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” of diversifying and rebuilding the Nigerian economy, Allied Bond Consulting, under the auspices of
PIFS Conferences has initiated the National Workshop on Combating
Illegal Mining, Smuggling and the Protection of Mining Sites and
